On 3 February 2024, the Québec provincial government closed a public consultation on draft regulation on data protection. This regulation applies to all public bodies as well as private sector entities that handle personal information. The regulation stipulates that before starting an anonymisation process, an organisation must establish the purposes for which it intends to use the anonymised personal information. The anonymisation process must be carried out under the supervision of a competent person. The regulation also requires organisations to regularly evaluate the anonymised information to ensure that it remains so, taking into account technological advances that may contribute to re-identification.
