Closed consultation on NIST implementation guidelines and standards under Executive Order 14110 on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence

On 2 February 2024, the public consultation closed on the Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) responsibilities and assignments under sections 4.1, 4.5 and 11 of Executive Order 14110 on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Under the Executive Order, the NIST is required to develop guidelines, standards and best practices to ensure the safe and secure development of AI. Further, the NIST has to establish measures and issue guidelines with the aim of reducing the risk of synthetic content and work with international organisations and other jurisdictions to advance technical standards for AI development.
