Announced EU Commission investigation into Google’s compliance with DSA requirements

On 14 December 2023, the European Commission sent a request for information to Google regarding risk assessments and mitigation measures adopted under the Digital Service Act (DSA). In particular, the Commission is requesting Google to provide information regarding the assessments conducted to identify systemic risks related to its Google Play. Furthermore, Google is required to submit information on the measures adopted to comply with the DSA’s transparency requirements regarding the recommender systems and online advertisements. The requested information has to be provided until 15 January 2024. In case of non-compliance, the Commission may issue fines in accordance with Article 74 of DSA for inadequate, false, or misleading information or initiate further proceedings.
