Malawi: Introduced Data Protection Bill 2023 including business registration requirement

On 7 December 2023, the Data Protection Bill 2023 was introduced in the Malawi Parliament. The Bill requires data controllers or data processors of significant importance to be registered with the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority. The data controllers or data processors of significant importance are considered entities that process the personal data of more than 10'000 Malawi residents, or the personal data is significant to the economy, society or security of the country.
