On 1 December 2023, a Bill establishing provisions relating to the protection of data (SB 731) was introduced into the Missouri Senate. The Bill aims to add six new sections to chapter 407 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri (RSMo). In particular, the Bill creates new consumer rights regarding the protection of data, sets out additional responsibilities for data controllers regarding data requests, and gives exclusive enforcement authority to the Attorney General. Further, the Bill provides for additional definitions, prohibits any local ordinances that would conflict with the act and sets out several exemptions.
