Russia: Adopted communications industry strategy including obligation for the gradual transition to SIM cards with Russian cryptography

On 4 December 2023, the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation announced the adoption of a Communications industry strategy including the obligation for the gradual transition to SIM cards with Russian cryptography. The transition is planned to begin in stages until 2030, as defined in the strategy. The transition aims to ensure the use of only sim cards running on domestic cryptographic algorithms.
