China: Issued ruling in MIIT investigation into various mobile internet applications compliance with data protection regulations

On 30 November 2023, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued a ruling in the investigation into various mobile internet applications (APPS). The MIIT recently engaged in third-party inspections into various APPS, which are of public concern. The MIIT found that 22 APPS and software development kits violate user rights. The MIIT requires the APPS in violation to rectify their practice in accordance with the relevant laws and frameworks.
