Description

Announced Strategic Cyber Partnership

On 22 November 2023, the United Kingdom (UK) and the Republic of Korea (ROK) announced the Strategic Cyber Partnership, in line with the ROK-UK Bilateral Framework for Closer Cooperation 2022 and the Downing Street Accord 2023. The partnership aims to strengthen cooperation, including information sharing, development of technical standards, international laws and norms, protection of critical national infrastructure, and the development and deployment of cyber and nuclear technologies. The partnership will be separate from, but complementary to, the ROK-UK Digital Partnership. The states aim to provide mutual assistance in the event of disruptive or malicious cyber incidents. The partnership will be governed by the ROK National Security Office (NSO) and the UK National Security Secretariat (NSS) through regular discussions. Finally, an action plan with further details will be published in the first 2 years of the partnership. The announcement does not impose any legally binding obligations.
