Description

Negative reassessment of Swiss-US Privacy Shield

On 8 September 2020, the Swiss Data Protection Authority issued its assessment of the Swiss-US privacy shield, concluding that it no longer offers an adequate level of user data protection. The decision was issued in view of the Court of Justice of the European Union's "Schrems II" decision invalidating the EU-US privacy shield. As a consequence of the decision, Switzerland removed the US from the list of countries with adequate data protection, to which data transfers are allowed without additional safeguards.
