Issued ruling in ACMA investigation into Telstra over alleged violation of customer safety and privacy regulations

On 25 August 2023, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) ruled that Telstra, a telecommunications provider, failed to provide accurate details of thousands of customers to the Integrated Public Number Database (IPND) fined the company AUD 306’360. Previously, in 2021, Telstra was penalised AUD 2.5 million for similar non-compliance issues. In September 2022, Telstra disclosed additional errors, including incorrect information for over 19’000 customers between October 2010 and August 2022 and incorrect handling of about 600 silent numbers.
