On 31 December 2023, the FISA Amendments Reauthorization Act of 2017 (S. 139) applicability expired. The Act reauthorised Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 2017 (FISA), which previously expired on 31 December 2017. Section 702 FISA authorised the US government to "target non-US persons, reasonably believed to be located outside the United States, in order to collect foreign intelligence information".
