Ivory Coast: Issued ruling in investigation into YANGO on unauthorised audio recording of communications

On 23 August 2023, the Telecommunications/ICT Regulatory Authority of Côte d'Ivoire (ARTCI) issued a decision concerning its investigation into Yango LLC, a ride-hailing platform, and its data protection practices for the purpose of ensuring drivers’ safety. In particular, the ARTCI found that Yango had conducted unauthorised recordings of communications within vehicles using the application and has instructed the company to immediately disable the feature to record conversations. Furthermore, the aggregated recorded audio data must be blocked and deleted.
