United Kingdom: Introduced Investigatory Powers (Amendment) Bill

On 8 November 2023, the Investigatory Powers (Amendment) Bill was introduced in the United Kingdom (UK) Parliament. The Bill seeks to modify the bulk personal dataset regime to enhance the efficiency of UK intelligence agencies when using publicly available data, with proper safeguards. The Bill aims to realign existing powers for the intelligence agencies without creating new ones by strengthening judicial oversight, updating data access arrangements and increasing the resilience of the warrant authorisation processes. These amendments aim to improve the ability of security agencies to address terrorism, serious crime, and state threats and uphold privacy and human rights.
