Signed Executive Order on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence including competition authority governance

On 30 October 2023, the President of the United States signed an Executive Order (EO) on Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence (AI), including competition authority governance. The EO recommends that executive agencies use their current powers to promote competition in AI and prevent entities from abusing their dominant position in the market and disadvantage competitors. The EO recommends that the Federal Trade Commission use its rule-making authority under the Federal Trade Commission Act to ensure fair competition in the AI development and semiconductor sectors.
