United States of America: Issued ruling in DMV investigation into Cruise LLC regarding alleged non-compliance with the quality requirements in the revised regulations on the testing of autonomous vehicles

Description

Issued ruling in DMV investigation into Cruise LLC regarding alleged non-compliance with the quality requirements in the revised regulations on the testing of autonomous vehicles

On 24 October 2023, the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) issued a ruling as a result of its investigation into Cruise LLC regarding alleged non-compliance with the quality requirements outlined in the revised regulations for autonomous vehicle testing. In response to these findings, the California DMV notified Cruise that it is suspending Cruise's permits for autonomous vehicle deployment and driverless testing with immediate effect. The DMV has also provided Cruise with a set of specific steps to follow in order to apply for the reinstatement of these suspended permits. However, the DMV specified that these permits will not be approved until Cruise complies with the department's requirements. The decision to withdraw the autonomous deployment and driverless testing permits is based on concerns regarding the safety and performance of Cruise's vehicles, which have led the DMV to conclude that they are not currently meeting the required safety standards.
