On 16 December 2019, revised regulations were adopted in California, allowing for the testing and deployment of autonomous motor trucks on the state's public roads. These updated regulations also include specific licensing requirements. According to these requirements, any manufacturer interested in conducting tests of autonomous vehicles capable of operating without a human driver inside the vehicle on California's public roads must submit an application for a permit to conduct driverless testing. This application is to be submitted to the relevant department through an Autonomous Vehicle Tester (AVT) Program Application for a Manufacturer's Testing Permit.
