United Arab Emirates: Adopted Metaverse Self-Governance Framework White Paper including content moderation regulation

On 9 October 2023, the Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications Office of the United Arab Emirates, in collaboration with the Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism, released the Responsible Metaverse Self-Governance Framework White Paper. The White Paper introduces nine self-regulatory principles, such as interoperability, privacy by design, and sustainability, to guide the development of the metaverse. Regarding content moderation, the White Paper also emphasises the importance of platform moderation and sanctions for harmful or illegal actions.
