Introduced Bill on Connected Devices and Labeling Requirements (AB 2392)

On 17 February 2022, Bill 2329 on Connected Devices and Labeling Requirements was introduced to the California State Assembly. The Bill clarifies the requirements to fulfil device labelling standards as set out in the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards for consumer Internet of Things (“IoT”) products. In particular, it allows device manufacturers to satisfy the NIST requirements by meeting or exceeding NIST standards for consumer IoT products, including through conformity assessments and by displaying the binary label.
