Adopted US-Singapore Critical and Emerging Technology (CET) Dialogue including cross-border data transfer regulation

On 12 October 2023, the United States (US) and Singapore established the Critical and Emerging Technology (CET) Dialogue, which complements the existing Partnership for Growth and Innovation and Cyber Dialogue. The parties announced the development of a bilateral roadmap for the Digital Economic Cooperation. The parties stated it would address data governance, digital standards, consumer protection, and digital transformation support for small and medium enterprises. Furthermore, the parties announced their commitment to policies to enable cross-border data transfers and expand the Global Cross Border Privacy Rules (CBPR) Forum. The CBPR Forum aims to ensure trusted data flows and promote data protection and privacy to support businesses in reaching global markets.
