China: Issued MIIT Notice for smartphone applications to register and file business information

On 21 July 2023, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued a notice concerning requirements for the registration and filing of business information for mobile application providers (Apps). In particular, Apps that can be downloaded by consumers must complete filing procedures with their network access service providers. Apps that can be used without being downloaded by consumers must complete filing through their distribution platforms. Apps are required to comply with the filing requirement before initiation of business. However, there is a transition period for apps that are operational before the issuance of the notice which will be required to complete filing before 31 March 2024.
