United States of America: Issued Court’s Final Judgement and Orders in Facebook Consumer Privacy User Profile Litigation

On 10 October 2023, the US District Court for the Northern District of California issued its final judgement, an order granting final approval of class action settlement, and an order awarding attorney’s fees in “Facebook, Inc. Consumer Privacy User Profile Litigation”. In particular, the Court granted final approval to the USD 725 million settlement reached by the parties, which constitutes the largest amount ever achieved in a data privacy class action and the single highest settlement of a class action by Meta. In addition, the Court awarded over USD 181 million in legal fees to plaintiffs' lawyers, an amount equal to 25 per cent of the settlement fund.
