Description

Issued preliminary enforcement notice against Snap over “My AI” feature in UK Snapchat

On 6 October 2023, the UK’s Information Commissioners Office (ICO) issued a preliminary enforcement notice against Snap after finding that the risk assessment carried out by the company before the launch of the “My AI” feature for UK Snapchat+ subscribers did not properly assess the data protection risks posed by the generative AI technology for users in the UK, including children aged 13 to 17. The preliminary notice outlines the steps which the Commissioner may require from Snap. If a final enforcement notice is issued, Snap may be compelled to cease processing data related to "My AI", including discontinuing the product for UK users until a thorough risk assessment is conducted.
