Announced fines and corrective measures against Google and Apple for abuse of their dominant position in the app market

On 6 October 2023, the Korean Communications Commission (KCC) announced it would impose fines of up to KRW 68 billion against Google and Apple for abusing their dominant position in the app market. More specifically, over an investigation carried out by the KCC, Google and Apple were found to have forced app developers into specific payment methods and to have unfairly delayed app reviews. In addition, the KCC found that Apple implemented discriminatory charging of fees to domestic app developers. The KCC will impose a fine of KRW 47.5 billion against Goole and KRW 20.5 billion against Apple. Furthermore, the KCC announced it will impose corrective measures against both companies.
