Adopted Memorandum of Understanding between consumer protection authorities of US, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru

On 29 September 2023, the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced the signing, together with the consumer protection authorities of Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru, of a Memorandum of Understanding (MMOU) aiming to combat cross-border fraud. The MMOU facilitates information-sharing, policy development, and assistance in enforcement matters, and is formulated as a response to perceived consumer risks in view of the changing nature of global commerce and the increasing importance of e-commerce and social media. This MMOU provides a framework for further cooperation in the region, allowing other countries to join. As part of the agreement, participants will share consumer complaints, provide investigative support, coordinate enforcement actions, and collaborate on various consumer protection initiatives.
