Launched NTIA inquiry into Kids Online Health and Safety

On 28 September 2023, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) announced the launch of an inquiry into Kids Online Health and Safety. The NTIA aims to gather evidence on the effects of social media and online platforms on minors, the prevailing practices within the industry, and strategies that the private sector, caregivers, and the US government can employ to mitigate adverse consequences. In particular, the NTIA seeks to obtain more information on assessing the health, safety, and privacy risks, as well as potential benefits, associated with using social media and online platforms by minors. Following the consultation, the NTIA aims to develop guidelines and best practices that could enhance the ability of caregivers and companies to safeguard the health, safety, and privacy of minors in the online environment. The public consultation will open after the publication in the Federal Register.
