Adopted revised Ministry of Trade Regulation 50/2020 concerning e-commerce transactions and social media platforms

On 25 September 2023, the Indonesian Government adopted the revised Ministry of Trade Regulation 50/2020. The revised Regulation introduces several provisions related to social media platforms and e-commerce transactions. Notably, the Regulation prohibits social media platforms from facilitating commercial transactions and may only facilitate the promotion of goods and services. Furthermore, social media platforms are prohibited from functioning as e-commerce platforms in order to prevent the misuse of public data for business purposes. The Regulation also prohibits e-commerce platforms from assuming the role of producers.
