Limitation of online video gaming time to three hours per week for minors

On 30 August 2021, the National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) released its "Notice on Further Strict Management and Practically Preventing Minors from Indulging in Online Games". The notice was released in an effort to protect the health of minors, with minors being defined as all children and teenagers under 18 years old. With the notice in effect, online video gaming is not only limited to three hours per week but also limited to the timeframe of 8 pm until 9 pm on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and other legal holidays. The video gaming service providers are obliged by law to always request login information from the users and to limit gaming services to non-minors outside of the aforementioned timeframes.
