On 9 September 2023, the Prime Ministers of the Republic of Singapore and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland adopted the final declaration on a strategic partnership, including a chapter on new technologies such as cyber and AI. In the joint declaration, the Prime Ministers of Singapore and the United Kingdom emphasise their commitment to free trade, international law, and the rules-based multilateral system, as well as their dedication to peace, stability, and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region. The partnership covers a wide range of areas, including economic cooperation, defence and security, climate and sustainability, research and innovation, and public sector cooperation. Regarding defence, security, intelligence, and foreign policy, the two nations aim to uphold a stable and peaceful international rules-based order. They plan to expand their bilateral defence cooperation, modernise the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA), and collaborate on cybersecurity, hybrid threats, and maritime security. Furthermore, the countries will intensify their collaboration in the advancement of both domestic and international standards concerning Internet of Things (IoT) security and application security. In addition, the countries intend to focus on enhancing cyber skills development. The Foreign Ministries will oversee the implementation of this partnership through a regularly updated roadmap.
