Announced eSafety Commissioner approval of Search engine code

On 8 September 2023, Australia's eSafety Commissioner announced a new online safety code covering internet search engines. The code would require search service providers to take measures against the display of illegal class 1 material, such as child abuse or terrorism, on their services. Also, in light of new search engines incorporating Artificial Intelligence (AI), it must be avoided that AI generates synthetic class 1 material. The code will be implemented six months after registration.
