Introduced Privacy Amendment Bill (No. 292-1) including cross-border data transfer regulation

On 5 September 2023, the New Zealand Parliament introduced the Privacy Amendment Bill, which aims to make changes to the Privacy Act. The Privacy Amendment Bill would clarify that, for the purposes of assessing whether privacy protection in a third country provides comparable safeguards for the purposes of cross-border data transfers, the Privacy Commissioner can assess countries both on an individual basis or on the basis of their membership in a bloc of countries.
