Announced ACCC consumer protection lawsuit against eHarmony Inc

On 7 September 2023, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) announced a lawsuit against eHarmony Inc, a provider of dating services in Australia through a website and an app. Allegedly, eHarmony violated the Australian Consumer Law by making a variety of misleading statements about their service. This includes: describing their basic program as "free dating", when in fact, an upgrade to the paid premium program was necessary; incorrect statements about "one-month" programs; and giving consumers false impressions about the duration of memberships, which were automatically renewed and displayed incorrect minimum prices.
