Switzerland: Passed Initiative Restricting Commercial and Short-Term Rentals

On 13 February 2022, the proposed law to revise the Bauordnung of the city of Bern was adopted. The amendment foresees that commercial (more than 90 overnight stays per year) and short-term (less than three months) rentals in the Upper Old Town and in the commercial area of Matte in the attic spaces will no longer be permitted second homes. In the Lower Old Town and in the residential area of Matte, the prohibition will apply from the second floor.
