Launch of sectoral research into fintech

On 11 March 2020, the Hellenic Competition Commission launched a sectoral inquiry into the area of fintech. While the increasing importance of technology in the financial sector was noted, the Commission also stated that these developments can possibly lead to the distortion of competition. The competence to do sectoral research stems from article 40 of law 3959/2011. The research comes as part of a wider investigation into the competitiveness of the digital economy in Greece. A final report is expected for late 2021.
