Federal Administrative Court upholds sanction against Swisscom and Blue Entertainment/Cinetrade

On 10 May 2022, the Swiss Federal Administrative Court upheld the Competition Commission's CHF 71.8 million sanction against Swisscom and Blue Entertainment in a case regarding sports broadcasting rights. CT Cinetrade AG, now known as Blue Entertainment AG, possessed exclusive live broadcasting rights for football and ice hockey matches on pay TV. They then transferred these rights to Teleclub. Swisscom, through Teleclub, enjoyed comprehensive access to football and ice hockey broadcasts on Swisscom TV, while other television platforms had to settle for limited sports content on less favourable terms. Some TV platforms didn't receive any sports content at all. This would likely hinder the competitiveness of rival TV platforms.
