Switzerland: Closed data protection investigation into ONCE app

On 17 May 2023, the Swiss Data Protection Authority (EDÖB) concluded its investigations into ONCE, a dating app. The investigation aimed to clarify whether the handling of deletion requests and the disclosure of personal data to third parties are compliant with data protection regulations. The EDÖB concluded that although the requests for deletion received were processed within a short period of time, the deletion concept as a whole was inadequate. In addition, the relevant information about the deletion options was insufficient and misleading. Consequently, the EDÖB issued specific recommendations to which the company agreed to adhere.
