Introduced Bolstering Online Transparency Act (BOT Act/SB 1001)

On 5 February 2018, the Bolstering Online Transparency Act (BOT Act/SB 1001) was introduced to the California Senate. The BOT Act applies to all natural persons and legal entities using automated online accounts (bots) to communicate or interact online with another person in California. Unless the bot is disclosed, using the bot to incentivise a purchase or sale of goods or services in a commercial transaction is illegal.
