Introduced Act relating to protecting the interests of minor children featured on for-profit family vlogs (HB 1627)

On 26 January 2023, an Act concerning the protection of the interests of minor children featured on for-profit family vlogs (HB 1627) was introduced to the House of Representatives of Washington State. The Act aims to regulate social media content creators who profit from video content involving their children. The Act would establish the conditions under which minors involved in the described situation gain rights to profits, as well as the apportionment of those profits, which would be required to be set aside in trust by the content creator's parents. Furthermore, the Act would create a right to request the deletion of content in which individuals were featured as minors upon reaching the age of majority.
