Opened consultation on draft Regulations for the use of facial recognition technology including business registration requirement

On 8 August 2023, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) opened a consultation on the draft Regulations for the use of facial recognition technology until 7 September 2023. In particular, entities using face recognition technology in public places that are in possession of facial data on more than 10,000 individuals must register with the local branch of the CAC. These entities are required to explain the purpose of data collection and detail the data protection measures they have implemented.
