Description

Opened consultation on Draft Decree 72 on the management, provision and use of internet services and online information including data localisation requirement

On 17 July 2023, the Vietnamese Government opened a consultation until 15 September 2023 on Draft Decree 72 on the management, provision and use of internet services and online information, which would entirely replace current Decree 72. In particular, the draft Decree requires social network services and regulated cross-border providers, defined as foreign organisations engaging in cross-border services with lease space in data centres or that receive monthly visits from Vietnam of 100,000 or more for six consecutive months, to store in Vietnam personal information of Vietnamese users, including name, date of birth, email and mobile phone number.
