Indonesia: Adopted Regulation 20/2016 Regarding the Protection of Personal Data in an Electronic System including data protection authority governance

On 7 November 2016, Indonesia's Minister of Communications and Informatics adopted Regulation 20/2016 Regarding the Protection of Personal Data in an Electronic System, which includes data protection authority governance. The Regulation implements parts of Government Regulation 82/2012. Regulation 20/2016 establishes administrative procedures and sanctions for violations of its provisions. Supervisory authority, dispute resolution duties are delegated to the Director General of Informatics Applications, a functionary within the Ministry who is also responsible for carrying out public educational functions regarding data protection. The Regulation will enter into force on the date of its promulgation.
