South Africa: Opened consultation on White Paper on Audio and Audiovisual Media Services and Online Content Safety including digital platforms tax

On 31 July 2023, the South African Government opened a consultation on the draft White Paper on Audio and Audiovisual Media Services and Online Content Safety until 8 September 2023. The White Paper includes high-level policy proposals on regulations and principles to modernise the current legal framework on Audio and Audio-visual Content Services (AAVCS). In particular, the White Paper contains a proposal to impose a 2% turnover tax on digital platforms which would be used to fund South African projects.
