On 4 October 2019, the Government of Indonesia issues and implements Government Regulation 71 (GR 71/2019). The Regulation revokes GR 82/2012 and introduces a classification of Electronic System Providers (ESP) into Public and Private. The Regulation gives supervisory powers to the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, which is able to impose administrative sanctions such as written warnings, administrative fines, temporary suspensions, access terminations, and deregistration against ESP found to violate data protection obligations.
