Introduced Bill 184/23 on freedom and equality in online social media

On 3 March 2023, Bill 184/23 on freedom and equality in online social media was introduced in the Senate of Argentina. The Bill would require online platforms, including search engines providers, to remove user-generated content only if it receives a formal order issued by a competent judicial authority, it is "evident and indisputable" the content is illegal, or its publication would be a crime or a third party is requesting the removal and provides evidence that the content violates her rights. The online platform provider would be required to notify the user of content removal and provide the reasons. The user would have the right to challenge the content removal decision if the content was not removed based on a court order.
