Issued Senacon order requiring Facebook and Google to delete advertisements containing misinformation about Desenrola Brasil program

On 26 July 2023, National Consumer Secretariat of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (Senacon) announced it ordered Facebook and Google to delete advertisements containing misinformation about Desenrola Brasil program. The Desenrola program was launched by the national government in order to renegotiate bank debts, and after its launch, the Senacon stated that fraudulent advertisements were displayed on online platforms. Facebook and Google must remove the flagged advertisements within 24 hours, or they will be fined BRL 150'000 per day for non-compliance. Furthermore, the platforms are required to submit transparency reports regarding the measures adopted to limit the dissemination of advertising containing misinformation and the decisions taken on each flagged content.
