Announced regulatory framework for online advertising

On 25 July 2023, the United Kingdom Government, in response to the consultation on the online advertising programme, announced that it would propose a new regulatory framework for online advertising to address illegal advertising and increase protections for children online. In particular, the UK Government aims to adopt statutory regulations to require online advertising to verify advertisements to ensure they don’t include illegal and misleading content and implement mechanisms to prevent children from seeing age-restricted advertisements.
