Announced Lawsuit against Reddit Inc. for failing to remove online content

On 19 July 2023, a public lawsuit was filed against Reddit in the Moscow City Court (case Nr. 05-0890/422/2023). The platform allegedly violated the Code of Administrative Offences by failing to remove false and illegal online content, such as information about the Soviet Union's actions during World War Two, information discrediting the Russian armed forces, as well as other information catalogued as extremist. The Code requires hosting providers and website owners to block access to information banned in Russia or to remove information recognised as illegal. Reddit faces a fine of up to RUB 4 million if found guilty.
