On 12 July 2023, the Italian Senate approved a law to combat the dissemination of copyright-protected content on electronic communications networks, which grants the communications authority (AGCOM) wide-ranging blocking powers. Namely, AGCOM can order service providers and network access providers to disable access to illicit content, including by blocking domain names and traffic routing to specific IP addresses. These blockings extend to both live websites and future websites that aim to circumvent the blocking. In addition, for live content, AGCOM can issue precautionary blocking orders that must be executed within 30 minutes, upon request by the rightsholder.
