Implemented Decree implementing EU Audiovisual and Media Services Directive including local content requirement

On 25 December 2021, the legislative decree of 8 November 2021 (nr. 208) enters into force. The decree includes a series of local content requirements, such as a 30% quota obligation for European works in VOD catalogues, of which at least half must be original Italian-language works made in the last 5 years by independent producers. Targeted VOD service providers are required to invest 17% of their annual net revenue in Italy in 2022, 18% in 2023 and 20% as from 2024 in independent European works, half of which must be original Italian-language works.
