On 12 June 2023, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) closed its consultation on exemption orders and basic conditions of service for online streaming services in the context of the modernisation of the Canadian broadcasting system. In particular, the consultation aims to determine whether certain exemption orders relating to online services should be repealed, amended or replaced and whether some basic conditions of service should be imposed on certain online streaming services such as submitting to the CRTC information regarding their activities in broadcasting in digital media as well as information on their revenues and expenditures.
