Issued CNIL Guidance on Google Chrome's Privacy Sandbox

On 12 July 2023, the Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL) issued a guidance for users on Google Chrome's Privacy Sandbox. The Guidance explains how the Privacy Sandbox works through a set of Google interfaces that allow publishers to continue to offer targeted advertising while eliminating third-party cookies to protect the privacy of users. The Guidance also explains that the Privacy Sandbox is still in an experimental phase where Chrome users need to offer their consent to participate in the project. In addition, the Guidance outlines the obligations of website publishers which are similar to those relating to the use of cookies such as providing information to users inform the users.
